The only people that say exercising with type 1 diabetes is simple are the people that don't have it or, don't live with it. At ext1d.com.au we're dedicated to providing practical direction on 'how to' exercise successfully and with confidence to people with type 1 diabetes.
There are literally thousands of websites, books and assorted publications telling people with type 1 diabetes about the 'health benefits' and why they 'should' exercise but few on 'how to'. Much of the information available on 'how to exercise' is either too academic to be understood or, it simply scratches the surface avoiding the meaningful issues that can help make exercise and participation in sport part of everyday life.
Understandably, many avoid physical activity through sheer frustration and negative experiences, not a lack of willingness. Although individual responses to exercise can differ among people with type 1 diabetes our goal is to provide a platform for people to find a starting point, to build confidence and a gain deeper understanding so they can maximise the mental and physical benefits of participation in sport and exercise.

Allan Bolton - B.H.M.S. (Hons)
ESSAM AEP SP GradCertDiabEd.
Has had Type 1 diabetes for 32 years.
Sport and exercise have always been a part of Allan's life. Since being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 18 he has found the lack of 'how to exercise with type 1 diabetes' resources remarkable. People with diabetes are constantly told they should exercise and why but seldom how to.
He has presented to many people, kids and adults, with outstanding feedback. This is the motivation behind him developing this online, accessible resource where people can learn from the experts and share their experiences with other people with type 1 diabetes.
| Like anyone with type 1 diabetes Allan simply wants to have a full, fun and uncomplicated life. His goal for this web site is to build an online community where people can find answers to questions on how to exercise with type 1 diabetes. |
